    Towing with the Stag?

Hi all, Considering purchasing a small'ish day boat, about 18/20' long. Has anyone towed with their Stag, is it a viable proposition? I appreciate it will put extra strain on transmission, (Manual) but my other car, a Jag is develping a gearbox problem and do not want to tow with this. If it's a goer, anyone have a tow bar to sell? Could be free river trips on the Thames for stag owners!

I have a tow bar you can have but you would need to figure out the wireing.

I know European Voyager - and he does exactly what it says on the tin - all over the place. Think it is entirely possible - but you'd have to go so slow!

Hi, I have towed with my Stag, a tandem axle car trailer with my Spitfire on and gear for a weekends racing. No problems but I have always done it with the hardtop on as I consider it strengthens the structure.

Is that a typo? should the word 'with' be in the the heading?

That's what I was thinking! Which begs the question I been wanting to ask, where the safest place to attach a tow 'rope' on the front of a stag? If it where ever required.

HI , Im just back from a 600 mile round trip to the lake district , Stags tow fine , Ive never towed with the hard top on , always soft top , mostly roof down . Its never given me any problems .
You would need to check your suspension condition and boot floor as the tow bar mounts there. Ive also towed a 16 foot ? Dateline Bikini speed boat with a 80 HP Yamaha behind it and again it didnt bother it . The caravan is braked but the speedboat trailer isnt, Hope this is of some help. PM me and Ill send my phone number if you want to ask any questions.

I towed our old caravan with my stag several times without any problem. The 'van weighed in at 1200kgs laden so it was close to the maximum allowed.

I fitted spring assisters when towing which helped keep the rear end at a reasonable height but the stag coped more than adquately.
I never had the hardtop on either - if you think you get a lot of interest when driving your stag then try towing a caravan with the roof down and check out the looks. Even Martin smiled at me when he overtook us returning from Uttoxeter national day

Hi Andy 600miles? was that via Aberdeen? I tow my Esterel folding caravan topless whenever I can with no problems. You might consider a stabiliser.

                          Hi Pete,

In Aug 2000 I wrote an article for the Stag Mag re towing with a Stag and had it checked by the Caravan Club. If you contact me off-line, details in the front of the Stag Mag, I'll send you a copy of the article.

                          Regards

What sort of mpg do you get whilst towing? and compared to normal.
