I was pleased to see the Editor printed the reply I received from my MP regarding the Ethanol issue. (page 12 of the July mag.) However I was not so impressed to read words he attributes to me which I never wrote! Yes I requested the typo of "potato's" be corrected on the National Day booking form but I did not use any of the words in the last 4 lines quoted.
It is a bit worrying when the Editor can make something up and attribute it to someone who never wrote it!
Regarding his reply, it was most certainly NOT OK for Dan Quayle to misspell "potato" by putting an "e" on the end. As I recall, he came in for a lot of criticism at the time (around 20 years ago) and the 11-year-old boy whose work he'd "corrected" appeared on US chat shows to further point up the Vice President's mistake.
As you'll also see, the error is still there on page 15 this month. How hard can it be to correct it?
I just hope this doesn't detract too much from what is a serious issue - the Ethanol one.
