I can't believe how wrong I have got it by pulling out the choke and just turning the key!

How's the engine coming along Adrian, will it be ready for the National day mate. see you in a couple of weeks in Somerset.

            Ian.

In the picture of the engine where does the carb top breathers seem to go? they don't connect to the back of the air box..

As for starting it seems abit much although i do put my foot on the gas before pulling the choke out.... is this wrong?

No, it takes the pressure off the n/side carb choke cam, so prolonging the life of the choke cables.

re his start procedure, reckon you could have that fixed in a jiffy by setting up the carb breather pipes etc. I wonder how many under bonnet fires he has had?
