Grose Jet Valves in carbs - any experiences?

    Hello everybody,

has anybody got any experience with Grose Jet needles (two-ball-principle) instead of the needle valves in the float chamber (both Stromberg and SU carbs)?
There seem to be good (old) ones and bad (newer) ones...

    Kind regards,
    Dieter.

This topic has been discussed recently. I think some people are going to try them soon, but no one has come forward with previous experience.

I have a pair I bought from Moss sitting in the boot ready to fit, funny enough I had the needle valve stick on the R/H side last Sunday, only a little bit but after switching off, on restarting it sealed again

Don't you just love these car's

        Dieter.
Rebuilt my carbs recently and used the Grose jets.
No problems fitting and so far seem to be OK. I did originally have problems with engine flooding after a run and trying to restart say after 10 mins was almost impossible so rebuilt the carbs replaced the breather hoses renewed the ignition and coil and fantastic all has been OK but........ last week it started playing up again Oh please just give me some SU's!!!
I have a Malpassie filter king to fit some time not sure if this will help. Had a thought of fitting the filter lower than the inlet to the carbs so that any fuel that is still in the filter will not "run" into the carbs after switching off and the pressure has dropped any one tried this and does it work?.

        Paul.

          Hello Paul and others,

The Grose Jets are available both for Stromberg and SU carbs. I used mine in the SU HIF6 carbs. So far they are okay and there is no leak. I read in a US forum, however, that the inventor and producer, Mr. Grose, died some years ago. The people who bought the rights to produce those valves did so afterwards obviously with lowered quality standards. At least so some people wrote....

The reason why I did not want to use needle valves any more is that they tend to stick. Even the ones with the famous Viton tips. Viton is obviously one of the materials, which are not resistant to the new ethanol fuel (E10). I hope I made the right decision.

          Best wishes,
          Dieter.

I have got the Grose jets fitted, seem O.K. so far, but there again so did the others until they leaked.

Hi Paul, I've got the Filter King, with gauge, and all's well, I dropped the pressure to 2 1/2 psi and no problems, even at high revs. I also have an electronic pump which puts out about 4 psi, that may have contributed to previous over fuelling, I think that may be a prob that a lot of us have.
I'd be careful about lowering the filter, you'll be getting closer to the hot bits. Martin.

I have the filter king, but I have mounted it high on the bulkhead, the carbs are supplied by thicker walled braided hose. The theory being if there is any vapourising the air goes up to the filter. The fuel is fed from the bottom of the filter & I've had no problems.
