Firstly thanx to everyone for the warm welcome to my New guy thread. Just recently purchased a 73 stag m'od. Got it cheap on fleabay. About to purchase a recon diff as mine is shot. Bit confused as don't know which one i have. The 3.7 or the 3.45. Is one for the auto? Any advice would be welcome.

The standard diff is the 3.7 but some have converted to the 3.45 which is from the saloons.
It's your choice, only a 7% difference which will affect the speedo reading by the same amount.ZF 4 spd box, Datsun shafts, SS exhaust, 38DGMS weber 158.9bhp, BMW MC Tomcat seatssigpic -
All standard diffs are 3.7 both auto and manual,the 3.45 is from a big saloon or estate I think, but work well to bring the revs down especially in an auto on the motorway.

Change to the 3.45, makes a considerable difference, and then pick up a speedo from a 2500S which will correct your error.......Comment

You will have to go a long way from Stornoway to find a motorway! So the standard diff will do fine. I have just had my diff out and in, so you are going to have fun.
My mother was a MacDonald from South Uist - are you born and bred up there? I was in Uist a couple of years ago, but i've never been up your way. I assume that it is a similar landscape.Comment

The 3.45 diff results in correct gearing/speedo acuracy if you're running 195/70 14 tyres. So performace should be pretty much the same as a 3.7 diff with 185 R14 tyres. At least that's what my calculator says.
