    Oil Cooler

I've just changed my autobox oil cooler- theold battered one sprung a leak. When I ordered it I assumed I needed 4 of the rubber mountings, but have ended up using only2 (and a bit of shoving and pushing) as there's no way it can be fitted with all4 rubber mounts without fouling the fan. The one I removed was the same. Is this how it's intended to be fittedor is this a case of less than perfect fit replacement parts?

    Bill.

Mine never fitted either. It was held on by only one bolt in the nearside. Don't know if it fouled the fan since I don't have one.I've since converted to manual.

    Mark.

Ok, so I am very confused too! I have just got round to re-fitting everything in the engine bay after a tidy up and respray, and the oil cooler is causing me no end of frustration!

The parts book appears to show the inlet/outlet end of the cooler fixed to the bracket with nuts & bolts, and the other end fixed to the bracket with bobbins. Is that correct?

Any how on earth are you supposed to get it all to fit around the anti-roll bar?!? My hands arenow suffering fromserious spanner-rash!

Does anyone have any photos of the cooler in position? Many thanks.

        Cheesy

That's the way I ended up fitting mine - it's the only way it would go without fouling the anti-roll bar or mechanical fan. I ended up using 3 fixing points - the two bobbins on the passenger side and one (lower) bolt on the inlet/outlet side as I couldn't get the top bolt hole to align with the bracket. It's secure enough, but when I'm next grovelling around under the rampsI'll drill through and elongate the hole in the upper bracket and secure with a bolt. I got mine from Paddocks, but was advised thatthe brackets at both endsfrom some other suppiers are incorrectly mounted. I'm not sure if SOCSparesdo one, but nobody ever answers the phone when I ringso a bit of a waste of time really.

I just been outside to get the photo and to my surprise found my cooler held on with a large cable tie!

It seems secure enough so I'll leave it as it is for now!

I have more photos from different angles but can only attach one.

Yikes - that looks a bit precarious! It resembles the condition of the one I removed e.g. rusting (and leaking)around the joint between the pipes and the cooler matrix. Watch out as the mountings gets a fairly hard life and you could end up with a broken pipe where its weakened by rust (major sudden loss of auto box fluid) or even worse, if it breaks away it could come into contact with the fan which could be expensive.

I've taken a few pictures of mynew installation which will hopefully will help:

              Thanks for the advice everyone!

As soon as my hangover subsides, I will go for a roll around under the car and see what I can sort out.

              Thanks again.
