Hi.
I'm hoping some of you more experienced stag owners can give me some guidance regarding adjustment of the kickdown cable on the BW35 box. My car has obviously been fitted with a new cable in the past (prior to my ownership) as the crimped collar on the cable is loose and shows no signs of being crimped previously.
The problem is that to initiate the kickdown I am having to bury my foot completely to the floor and even then it takes a while to actually shift down.
I think part of the problem is that the car is not achieving full throttle due to a combination of thick carpet plus overmat and possibly too much slack in the throttle cable.
So, having removed the overmat and fitted the carpet a bit better I'm still not getting full throttle. When the accelerator is depressed it activates the kickdown cable prior to operating the actual carb linkage - is the gap in the link too big perhaps. This is the gap that should be around 0.75/1.5mm I think?????
If so , mine is much bigger than this. Will closing this gap help?
The kickdown cable is (seems) correctly attached on the gearbox as I can feel the cam engaging when I pull on the cable once it has been disconnected from the throttle linkage but this would only seem to operate right at the very end of the throttle opening, i.e with the pedal on the floor rather than at around 3/4 down no matter how much I alter the cable adjuster - is this right???
I'm not keen to remove the sump pan from the box unless totally necessary but the lack of the crimped stop is not giving me anything to work to.
Sorry if I'm asking some stupid questions but I'm unfamiliar with older automatic transmissions.
Any ideas anyone???
Thanks
Mike
