i had to collect an old merc from a man in streatham today as his father passed on a while back so now he has the go ahead from his mother to get rid of all his fathers old cars and tools.....

so me being me(quite nosey) i said to the bloke what else did his father have and he opened this ricketty old gararge door up and in the garage was an old austin 3 litre sallon(the landcrab rear wheel drive)
1968 very very dusty hasnt moved for approx 3 years but was a daily driver up until his father passed away...
i have had a look around it and the only flaw to this car is the exhaust has rusted on the rear end so will need a new rear box and pipe etc...
i said to him is it for sale and he said it was but he diddnt know what it was worth..!!!

i made an offer for it and he said he'll ring me early next week to arrange collection of it..!!!

so fingers crossed for myself as i hope he's a man of his word...!!!!

i will keep you all posted as to what happens with this old beauty and if i do get it i will post some pictures of it on the forum...

Drek - My old man used to have one of them - 3 litre but his was a manual where most were autos. Fantastic ride and enough room for a dance inside but he had awful trouble with leaks on the rear suspension self-levelling mechanism.

they're very comfy cars russ and they're not like some of the austins you can get,very powerful for their time....

the man just rang me to say i can go and look at it properly as he's removed it from the garage,so i'm off to see the little gem i will take a couple of pics to put on here later for your veiwing...del........

as you can see i have loaded up some pictures of the old 3 litre its a shame about the passenger wing thats been replaced but i know my mate will sort the paint out on it for me,

i have checked the brake fluid in the master cylinder and yes there is none there!!!!! but looking on ebay there are a few repair kits available so i think i will get 2 new rear wheel cylinders and a repair kit for the master,other than this the interior is mint condition and even the walnut dash is excellent for the vehicles age......
i plan to collect it on monday if everything goes to plan......del..........

no it was a bit more than £50 old boy..!!!
anyway i just thought it might look good on the green ones drive instead of all them stag and that fiat..!!!!!! lol.....sorry russ old boy..!!!

That is similar to my mate's old Wolsley 18/85 from about 20+ years ago, it did about 8mpg ISTR, but we did drive it hard!
