I drove all the way to Ricky Gauld's garage near Huntly (80 mile round trip) to get new carb needles, etc fitted, in the pouring rain, only to discover that it's actually NEXT Monday I'm booked in for

To make matters worse my drivers side wiper blade went flying off when I was doing 60 mph. I stopped and walked back to retrieve it, but by the time I did it had been run over by a car and was ruined! Luckily I had previously treated the windscreen with RainX, so I could still drive safely enough.

Never mind, roll on next Monday (if I can get another day off work!).

Ricky Gaulds the man Graham, just a pitty you got the day's mixed up. He set mine up last month. 2.2 emissions & 120 ppm unburned fuel. Way better than anyone else could do, flew through MOT emissions test this year.

Hi Mike,

I already had the car tuned by Ricky last month. He actually got the car running really well despite the discovery that the needles in the carbs are of different lengths (so at least one is wrong!) and that the vacuum advance unit on the distributor is not working. So I've got the new parts and booked another visit (the 25th & NOT the 18th of June!) to get them fitted and get the car finally tuned.

Thats ok until you get a young tester

I think on Mk1 cars at least it's a visual check only.

I think post '74 cars are tested, before that it's just visible smoke. Martin.

Anything before 1st August 1975 is visual, after that date has to be 4.5% max CO.

if the vehicle was first registered before 1 August 1975, it gets a visual test.If you have a later car it gets a metered CO test........... Andy
