Dissolve away those broken Head Studs?

Could this be the answer to some of the problems with broken head studs? This product claims to be able to dissolve away steel and leave Non Ferrous metal alone.

Could it dissolve away the steel at the junction of alloy and the stud and free it?

OK anyone a chemist that can tell me what will dissolve steel and leave non ferrous?

I think I'm right is saying nitric acid will dissolve steel and have less effect on the non ferrous metals. Too long ago to respond with certainty. However bear in mind that in a concentration to dissolve steel this would be a highly dangerous solution to work with. And I don't mean dangerous like Nitromors or one of the paint strippers. I'd also be very anxious about the fumes.

I totally agree Brian, anything that can dissolve steel needs handling with extreme care. Although I don't have the problem at the moment this may be a 'final attempt' weapon. There have been a few people on here who have a broken stud half way down the head. I was just thinking a few drops from a pipette down the hole may do the trick of breaking the bond.

Thought I would google the question and your memory was correct a strong Nitric acid, not the old N10 solutions that used to sit on every bench of the school chemistry lab when I was at school. We had Sulphuric, Nitric and Hydrochroric acids and a couple of strong alkali solutions on every bench I don't suppose they have anything stronger than Salt ina school chemistry lab these days because of H & S regs!

I'd be worried that you couldn't train it to leave the block alone one it had done with the studs - unless you have alloy blocks on your Stags.........
