Hardtop side windows used as wind deflectors

Has anyone got any info or close up pics on this subject, I've only seen pics in the magazine some time ago taken at a distance. How's it done exactly and how effective are they? There has been an earlier thread on this subject, but let's see the photos

    Hi

I use them because the Kids whinge like mad otherwise, it certainly makes a difference though not massive, instead of whinging at 50mph the kids start whingeing at 60 mph so worthwile!

Its easy to do, I haven't got any pics to hand and I don't have them on the car at the mo. Remove windows and fitting strip from hardtop, take out securing pin from strip so windows can slide out without unscrewing the strip, (important to get soft top up in a hurry!), remove top two screws from B post trim, measure up and drill one or two extra holes in the securingstrip as necessary to line up, (this is hidden by rubber seal on hardtop so doesn't matter too much) screw on and almost job done. I have seen bent washers inserted in the soft top lid used to stop the back end swinging out but I use wire from where the catch was on the window and tuck it under the soft top canopy, not had a problem yet but I take them off for MOT. I will try and post pics later this week as the above is about as clear as mud. Have a look it's pretty simple, they look okay and do reduce the buffetting, although one does whistle a bit!

I'm making a set out of acrylic sheet from B&Q with lugs that hook under the tonneau cover and pins that go into the HRW and lower hardtop catches.

As they weigh virtually nothing I will feel a lot happier about having them on the car than the heavy glass.

The prototype looked a bit of a dogs breakfast with holes in the wrong place but it proved the concept - I'm in the process of cutting the new blanks now and if all goes well will be happy to mail a template if others want to give it a go.

They will stow in the soft-top well when it's up so no storage issues!

A friend gave me some acrylic to make some but it is about 12mm thick and weighs a tonne so I have stuck with the glass ones for now! They're not too heavy.

Is that a two-post lift you've got there in your garage?
