    Hardtop securing holes on horseshoe

    Hi guys

On the chrome horseshoe behind the B post are the holes where the pins go that secure the hardtop. On my car, on one side, there is the chrome metal piece and in this hole, there looks like a pressed piece of metal which is butted up against the chromed upper surface (Don't know if I am explaining this that well!). This give a hole depth of about half an inch.

On the other side, the pressed metal piece is not butted up aganst the chromed upper, and there is a gap of about 1/4 inch, perhaps less, all the way round between them.

My problem is that I'm trying to fit a Bossscreen and the depth of the pin seems way too short for the half inch hole, but happens to fit in the 1/4 slot on the other side.

Could anyone take a look at their horseshoes and tell me what they look like?

There is a brass camlock insert underneath; this may have dropped out of place. You need to take off the horseshoe to see what has happened.

Thanks, Chris, will go do so now, but which one is wrong - the one with a gap or the one without?

      Cheers

Hi Gord, just had a look at mine and the brass insert is immediately below the chrome upper. The one with the gap would appear to be wrong.

          Chris and Peter, thanks.

I took off the horseshoes - not the easiest of jobs with fat fingers and the insert had dropped as you suggested Chris. My inserts look like alimunium rather than brass, so that may explain the larger hole depths making if difficult to fit my screen if they are aftermarket. Smaller washers on the screen pins has done the trick. Went out in it to see how it felt, and either the fan belt or the alternator belt started squealing as I pulled away.

You're never done with a Stag, are you!!

          Cheers
