Overdrive gerbox switch for Mark 2 where is it

Help please

My overdrive is not working, I believe its an electrical fault. Followed wiring from soleniod of overdrive along gearbox to bell housing but CANNOT find gearbox switch, I can see reverse switch all right at back of gearbox . Can someone tell where it is located please.

Just re wired mine after refitting my engine.

Look at the reverse switch, and then its above that on top of the selector area.

Very hard to get to. I loosened the 4 x 9/16th bolts which hold the back gearbox mountings as much as I dare. I could just get my hands up to refit the cables. I doubt if you would be able to undo the switch by this method. Then saying that my hands are large, so a smaller pair might have the room.

Hi TJK,

The usual culprit is the wire where it leaves the gear stick. The constant movement of the gear stick eventually knackers the wire. I have also had two gear stick switches fail. I would start your search there, before crawling around under the car!

I agree with Dave. The overdrive switch in the gear knob is a poor design when new. You have to pull enough wire up through the gear stick to push the terminals on then pull the wires back to allow the switch to sit correctly. You're never sure if you've pulled the wires back too much.
