Noise from auto box.

Floored it a bit the other day and ever since have now got a noise from the box when in drive or reverse. Hard to describe, sort of whining and sort of quiet screeching but def different from before, BW35, will be ZF 4 speed when finances allow.

You spillchock verking fyne - no priblizs. First the obvious, have you checked the fluid level ? hot and running. Martin.

Checked recently but will chock again thanks, forgot to mention it was from a standing start, sounds like something has strained (not me).

Have you ferked the torque converter stator one way clutch? Do a stall test and check the rpm as per Rom. Does the noise occur only while in motion, or will it make the noise stationary in D or R. Also does yer car seem reluctant to accelerate above 50?

It makes the noise whether moving or still but only if in D or R; n and P it is quiet. Silly question, how do I do a stall test in an auto (thick head on)

Noise is worse today, no problem with acceleration and only really noisy from stationary to about 20mph.

Ross, what rom do you mean?

Looks like a zf on the way in a year or two. Very, very tempted to break it today and sell off the parts, mmmm, looks like decision time.

Reliable cars these Stags, only 600 miles in the last 4 years, but it is an old, crap gearbox, let's be honest.
