Seal on rear of 35 Auto box

I still have alot of movement (about 3mm in any direction) on the output from my 35 Auto box. Will changing the oil seal solve this or is the problem further inside. I can't see any bearing in the rear housing at all. Will I have to remove the rear housing or can the seal be pulled and replaced insitu. Off next week so this is the new project. Mike
