    Lumenition problem?

If you have read my weber conversion thread you will have seen that I have a suspected ignition breakdown at high revs/engine load. Is there any way to test the module? or should I just replace it anyway?
I've heard that problems with Lumenition are not uncommon, I thought I might go for LDparts ignition module that all fits under the dizzy cap. If it fixes the problem it will be £80 well spent.Thoughts?

Pertronix ignitions are popular with the Sunbeam Tiger Owners, and I have fitted one on mine; never heard a bad word about them.

Has anyone else had the same problem with Lumenition i.e. mis-firing under load and fine the rest of the time? Or do they work perfectly or not at all?

Ive had lumenition fitted to mine the best part of 20 years and its never let me down , my mate used to have the test gear for them . Would you like me to ask if he still has it and you could post it up and well test it ?

A friend of mine had problems with his - the car would just "stop". After a while it would restart. He replaced it and has had no problems since.

In your case, I'd be inclined to try a new coil (if you haven't already).

                  Cheers

Thanks for that offer, I will let you know if I need to take you up on it. I'm still exploring other causes for my problem, namely jetting the weber the same as John's and checking for the possibility of air leaks etc.

Hi, I recently bought an UltraSpark electronic ignition system from Ignition Car Parts http://www.ignitioncarparts.co.uk/Pa...P-EK010&s_vid= it is similar to the one for sale at LD Parts.

There was no fitting instructions with the unit so my initial fitting caused some problems, poor running timing out, I sent the suppliers an email which I have copied below.

I have fitted the unit properly and the car runs not too badly, I think my timing may be slightly retarded with the new unit as the engine runs hotter especially when climbing hills. I am now waiting for delivery of a new timing light to check this.

Please see my original post on this subject.

                      "Good evening.

Re; Triumph Stag Electronic Ignition Unit

Following my telephone conversation with your workshop this afternoon, as requested, I have attached a photo of my installation of the UltraSpark module.

The issues I have is that I bought the UltraSpark module from yourselves through ebay (item No 120737622982 Transaction 9ASO43772J5600157) and received it today - very quick delivery. The module was to be a spare part to carry during my touring holiday.

I currently have a lumination unit fitted and it works fine with the car running smoothly, however when I fitted your unit after removing the Limination wiring and optical set up the car ran like the timing was out -very rough. When I refitted my old unit all was well again with smooth running

Hope you can sort me out.

                      Regards
                      Danny

                      Hi Danny,

I can now see the problem, you need to remove the top plate and put the wires underneath, also the black grommit is no fully where it should be and i s stopping the advance and retard unit form working, this is why you are getting the fault that you are getting. Please try this and let me know how you get on.

                      Dave."

I have Lumenition, Flamethrower coil and the Webers, I took the Stag to work today, 50 miles round journey. Thrashed the Stag there and back, at times touching 120. Also got stuck in traffic near the Polish War Memorial (A40) Biker was knocked down.
Never had any probs with Lumenition.
                        Sukh.

my old lumenition first started missing occasional at high rpm, them more so, before finally giving up the ghost 4/5 months later - hence the change to Pertronix

I have had several lumenitions fail over the last 30 years, and currently have them fitted to 4 engines, but have never had one break down under load, that is normally coil or lead problem. When they go it is normally all cylinders or none rather than a random single cylinder missfire
