greetings from the USA! hoping someone could shed some light on some questions i have, first a little back story:
my father has two stags, a '73 and a '71....the '71 has a V8 with (what i believe is) a 3 speed auto gearbox...it is in rough shape, and i believe the engine is frozen...the '73 no longer has the triumph V8, but has been swapped at some point to (what i think) is a triumph straight 6 (probably swapped due to the overheating issues i've been reading about)...i know this engine runs rather well, but the car has been sitting idle for a few years now....
my father rarely has time free, and the stags have taken the back-burner for as long as i can remember...i've recently decided to work on the '73 (better of the two) as i have the money and time, in hopes that i can get it to a point where he can work on less time-consuming issues with it...
questions:
1. from my research i've decided that the straight 6 is either the 2.0L from the GT6 or a 2.5 from a TR6...how can i tell which engine it is? i know it needs a new alternator, valve cover gasket, and the fuel pump is going...are these parts interchangeable between the 2.0 and 2.5? i has twin stromberg carbs if that helps at all
2. at least one of the rear brakes is frozen and both front calipers are frozen...where can i get some decent replacement calipers, wheel cylinders, rotors, drums, etc. ?
3. what size tires should it have? it has the 14" 5-spoke alloys....i've read that it should run 195/70/r14 , but right how it has some dry-rotted 185s...does it matter?
4. the '71 has the 72 spoke wire wheels with spinners...is it easy to swap the hubs over ? i'd like to have the wire wheels re-finished at some point in the future
5. anything i should be aware of while while doing general maintenance to get it back in shape?
i wont be performing a full restoration on it, i can't imagine my dad will either...just looking to get it back in gear so it can be enjoyed
