The syncro on my gearbox can only just about cope with the speed of a gear change from a standard length gear stick if I shortened mine I would be crunching all my gear changes!!!
I started this little job today but it ended up taking longer than I thought for all the wrong reasons
I decided to take 2" off the length & angle the lever slightly. Started the job outside at the front off the house as it was a nice day. Modified the lever and the heavens opened as I was about to refit. Unfortunately the garage was 100 yards away down a gravel lane so I jammed the lever into position and took off thinking I had secured all parts. I forgot about the bloody lever locating pins on the tranny tunnel! Spent about an hour looking for one of them in the gravel . Unfortunately for my 2000 mk1, it has a similar setup, so it got pinched.
I find the result good. The lever now falls to hand & I feel no difference in selection effort, though there obviously is. It's no longer feels like my 18" Land Rover lever .
