    New Stag Owner

    Hi everyone

I have just purchased my first Stag and It needs some TLC its was a one owner Sapphire Blue Mk 2 1974 the body is great but it has suffered on the chrome work not having been touched for 2 years and the dampness in the garage has taken its toll, I need replacement horse shoes and bonnet and boot trims. Are all suppliers using the same source or is there a better one to go for?. also is there a reccomended refurbisher of wheels ( standard Stag alloys ).

My first post on this forum but not new to Triumphs I have had TR4A's for the last 8 years so you could say I have now grown up.

    Regards and Thanks Peter

Hi Peter, and welcome to the forum.
The panel edge trims were originally stainless steel, though some chrome ones have appeared over the years. Horseshoes are made of chromed Mazak, vile stuff, if yours are pitted, there's nothing practical you can do to improve them, if they were irrreplacable they can be restored but it's monstrously expensive. I don't know about the source, the only folk I can recommend from experience are E.J. Ward. Your best plan might be to come to the National Day, a week on Sunday, and search the autojumble, good stuff often turns up at fair prices. Good luck, Martin.

        Hello Peter,

Welcome to the club and forum. I would like to hear a bit more about the car and see pic's too - do you still have a 4A?

As your in Horndean you aren't far from Bordon / Whitehill, and there are two of us with Stags here if you ever fancy meeting up.

            Hi Peter,

I believe all horseshoes and boot/bonnet strips have the same origin, regardless of supplier. On my car, the rear set fitted extremely well, as did the front horseshoes, but the front strips needed some care as the profile doesn't seem to be exactly right, and are still not perfect. They are also rather costly although Rimmers always have them in their winter sale.

I'm sure you'll enjoy (one of?) Triumph's best,

            Simon

              Hello Peter,

I will definitiely be going to that show but not sure if the other owner here in Bordon / Whitehill (Aerosilver) can make that one. We also go down to the Deers Hut at Liphook, last Thursday of the month as there is a little meeting of classics there.

Hi Peter, welcome to stag world. Bought my stag 2 months ago. My alloys were also in a dreadful state. Took a drill with wire brushes and various grades of sandpaper and cleaned them up thoroughly. I then applied 5 coats of simoniz tough black (satin) and as u can see from my photos they are now acceptable. Total cost = 4 evenings and 15 quid. Must be ur cheapest and quickest option. cheers, Jools.

                    Hi Peter, and welcome!

I'm the other local owner in Whitehill so will look forward to meeting you at one of the local shows/get-togethers soon. Unfortunately I can't make the White Dove show this weekend but hopefully see you at the Deers Hut on the 25th?

                    Cheers,

                    Bob.

Hello Peter saw your post regarding trim and wheels. Can't help you with the trim but the wheels I can a bit.
As Jools said, take your time and do them yourself is the cheapest way. Jools hase done the majority of his wheels in black, but I did mine as they came from the factory. Loads of patience and a bit of time. Buy a craft knife and loads of blades for when, or if you mask them yourself. Use a good quality black paint as they will chip easily otherwise. Remove all of the original black paint with Nitromrse and you'll get th best result. Prime with etch. Have fun & welcome

                      Mike
