    paint colours

Hi, I am after a bit of advice regarding paint colours please. I own a Russet brown Stag which has just gone off to have the empty shell repaired and painted, however I am unsure what colour to paint it! I hate the brown and so that has to go, period, and I am toying with either B.R.G. or Tahiti blue. The interior is biscuit coloured and so I believe (trying to keep close to standard specs) that the green or blue would be okay. Does anybody have a "feel" for what would be the more desirable colour? I have heard it said a few times in discussions that B.R.G. seems to be an "old" colour that would not show the stag at its best, whereas the Tahiti blue would show off the car better. I do not intend to "show" the car so it really is just about trying to get the nicest end result for driving around in. Does anybody know of other colours that match the biscuit interior?
Finally, of the two colours mentioned does anybody have a list of the original B.L. colours and reference numbers so that I can pass it on to my sprayer?

    Many thanks

    Paul

    Hi Paul,
    What a dilemma to have

I would have to suggest Carmine Red. Although mine has a black interior I have seen them with the biscuit colour and it looks very smart IMHO. If you want to go blue, then the Delph Blue also looks good with the lighter interior. Tahiti is a bit bright for me, and there are plenty around, but the Delph is between Tahiti and Sapphire, looks really smart and not so many around. It would be my choice (after Carmine )

This early 77 colour/trim card is a tad faded, but may help.

Also, this is an extremely good website, and gives the full range of colours with pictures, although not Stags

Hiya Paul, it's a very personal thing. Of those two, I prefer the Green, slightly unusual and a lovely colour, the blue is a cracker as well. Mine's white, so that's an honest opinion. There are some areas your painter must be made aware of or he'll miss them. The hood well, and the underside of the tonneau cover are favourites, also the inside of the front valance, and the front face of the radiator panel. Either way, it's not a problem to lose sleep over. Martin.

I recommend you watch Monty Python's Quest for the Holy grail and ask yourself "what is your favourite colour"!

                  Hi Paul,

Have a good look at Brooklands green. Only offered in the last year or so of production, it is quite close to BRG but avoids that colour's slightly "old' image.

I wanted a BRG or Brooklands car with biscuit or Beige interior and thought I'd bought a BRG car. In fact, although my car was originally BRG (code 75) it has been resprayed in what appears to be Brooklands (code HAE).

Having said that, I've seen cars that appear to be the same colour as mine but which are code 75 and don't show signs of respray

I believe the last Stag produced, that is on display at the Heritage centre at Gaydon is Brooklands.

                  Cheers

                  Julian

Just a minor point, but interesting, there's no such colour as BRG. Before the war, most European countries came up with their own racing colours, Belgian Yellow, French Blue, Italian Red, German Silver, and British green, it was no particular colour, though most of the "Bentley Boys" opted for Goodwood, a VERY VERY dark green, some for Brooklands which was a little lighter, but still much darker than Triumph's colour. Lecture over Martin.

                      Hi Paul,

Whats the matter with Brown, it's the colour of the seventies, I thought mine was russett brown until I had the hard top resprayed and it came to be the actual colour is sienna, when it's clean and shiny I think it looks great, does not show the dirt and sets of the chrome perfectly, lets hear it for the Brownies!!

Thanks for all your replies, I must have a look at the Python sketch before I make up my mind ! I am off to the national show next week so that should give me a few ideas, but I have to say that the Carmine red option has thrown a spanner in my works, as it reminded me of my old Dolomite sprint with the Carmine/biscuit option, very nice as I remember.CheersPaul
