    Sticking my neck out

    OK

I know that there are some that will take this as God given opportunity to have a go at me personally, but having received the Mag in the post this morning, and digested the contents in the time it took to eat a bowl of porridge, what has happened to it?

It has gone back to the old ways, virtually no technical content, except for the forum recap. The only thing that lightened things for me was Steve Carter's write up on Bromley Pageant, which I gather was his first attempt at such a thing.... bloody good effort Steve. It's also nice to see what Ashley and Tony are up to with the racing Stag.

When I stopped writing the Jack Shaft pages, I expected the editor to replace it with something else, but it seems although some people say they have written stuff and submitted it, it has never arrived in print.

It seems to me there is now a real case for a Forum only membership, at a reduced rate as the only technical discussion is going on via the forum - if you want the mag you can opt in and pay more.

Russ does have a point, but it's all old ground which been over and over. The mag has been pretty decent in recent months, this month was perhaps a little short. I do agree to an "opt out of the mag" part of the club, but, I think this has also been discussed and the outcome was that it may be too difficult to administer. I'm not bothered either way myself!!!

I have to agree with Kryten
But I've said it before, takes me a cup of coffee to read it, I am not interested in the fairy cake club just useful stuff to keep the car on the road and the stories of other owners cars and experiences.
I like the idea of forum only membership, it's what I use and need.
No offence to those who like the other stuff, but it was only the friends contacts, help and advice on this forum that I renewed for.
There, I've said it and will head off with my wine bottle now.
Just paid out to have my German weekly ride serviced today so feeling like a drink!
          Cheers

I have to be honest, I hardly read the magazine, I pay my membership for the forum access, which I enjoy. I have a quick scan through the mag & check what's happening in my local branch,(more often than not the info is out of date) I can't attend the meetings I'm not home from work in time.

I wish I had a copy of the mag to give an opinion - Mr Postie still has not reached the wilds of Cheshire yet.

I don't reckon we should split the forum from the other members, we could wind up with yet another Stag club !
I agree with Russ and Glyn that my interest in the club is largely 'cos of tech help, but a great many members enjoy the whole thing, fairy cakes, tech help and all ! At Faversham, a lot of folk thought we were two separate clubs 'cos of the forum parking and we're NOT! I know it wasn't Bob's fault, the course people let him down, not a good picture to present to new members / Joe public. My 2ps worth.
The forum is precious to me, no fights or I'll thcreem and thcreem till I'm thick ! Martin.

Come on guys, we have been here before..........

This forum is not the Club, its an extension of the clubs benefits and works well.

I totally agree with you Russ that the mag is lacking technical articles but we just don't have anyone who is prepared to step forward as you did. Perhaps one day. You are missed

It's not really a subject I am interested in seeing resurrected on the forum to be honest.

Lots of discussion on this one in the past - it doesn't bother me either way, many like the mag, many prefer use of the forum, many like both........ the key is that they are both components of the SOC - it is what it is, all for significantly less than the price of a tank of fuel.

I will admit I only joined the club for tech help and parts source... never realized the club shop didn't sell parts (Its been "explained" to me but I think there are other more obvious reasons why it wont happen) and that there was so much opposition from club admin for that ever becoming a possibility.

Also think the SOCTFL is a strange organisation.... sent an email there with a question about re-manufacturing the boot lid. Never got a response or even an acknowledgement... very "unclubby".

The only bit of the club I use now is the Forum and that is very worthwhile... would think twice about paying for it though if it was a forum only club.
Maybe re-join the TSSC which might suit me better in the future and would definitely do if the forum and the club split.
