Lucky Escape

I had a lucky escape coming back from Cambridge this morning.By the time I came to Newmarket by-pass I was getting a bit carried away(doing 70)then all of sudden I heard a noise and all I could smell was petrol,eventually found a place to pull over,looked underneath and the petrol was gushing outonto the exhaust,anyway clamped the feed to the pump with molegrips which stopped it and called breakdown service,who carted me and the car home.

Looked underneath and found the knackered bit of pipe had been dangling down,I had an mot yesterday andim wondering if the tester was checking the fuel lines and pulled on them by mistake and the pipe caught the prop or something,the gash is too big to have happened over a period of time.Anyway Ive fixed it now hopefully but still a bit worried about the first initial noise.

Was it the metal or rubber pipe that split?

When I acquired my second Stag 7 years ago as a non runner, garage stored for 10 years, one company owner from new (yep all genuine) I thought I'd found a peach. Even original tyres!

But that standing around does the rubber bits no good at all, as I found out when getting it going, pushed on metal fuel pipe and fuel poured out of a front rubber connector - completely perished.

Many years ago I had a Spitfire (the 4 pot type), at 9 years old I received a BL recall - to replace the fuel connectors to the carbs. This rubber stuff goes off after awhile. Maybe that explains my lad!

Have to pop up the Manger sooner or later.

I hear what your saying about the pipe but in this instance I reckon it come off a clip and chafed on the prop, going on what the gash looked like.

I just done a quick repair with a bit of rubber hose to make sure all is well,although I do not intend to do any miles till I fix it properly on the ramps.

It seemed to be a heavy duty plastic type pipe but I will have a better look at it when I fix it properly.
