    Still a fairly regular occurance with TR6 PI ownership - you become fairly blase (where's the french characters on my keyboard?) about whipping out an injector to see what's happening in the petrol department without realising that you're holding a 100 psi flame thrower! :?

          Hi Andrew

          I have been listening to your video on and off all morning trying to think what it maybe?
          • I would be checking the camshaft bore for wear which would not necessarily shown up when cold
          • Check the baffle plate in the cam cover although this would be heard even when cold.
          • Consider the possibility it may be a worn small end or as Russ suggested a piston that has picked up.
          What you have to remember the problem on shows up when the engine is warm/hot so it is safe to assume that this is a part making the noise that has a tolerance issue. If all the clearances are correct on the tappets then it must be something else in that area which would have a tolerance growth within 2-3 minutes, I would say the aluminium parts or the piston would have expanded within this time scale so would start there.

          With a stethoscope you should be able to get a more accurate location of where the noise is coming from.

          One last thought and a bit of a wild guess you haven't got a broken valve spring?

          Hope you find the problem soon and it doesn't cost to much to fix.

            Hi Stuart

            Thanks for taking the time on this niggly problem. I think to be fair, the noise could be there from cold, if and only if the engine would take less choke as its only when I put the choke in a little more, which in turn drops the revs.

            If I rev the engine say to 1200 revs, it goes. It is not a noise that gets worse or louder.Today we we out on our drive it run and when parked, I had a a few heads in the engine compartment and between us we could not hear or point where it was coming from. If you stand on the passenger side, it sounds as though it is in the middle near the carbs and if you stand on the drivers side, it sounds like its on the LHG head at the front between No's 2 & 4

            At 2000 revs you wouldn't hear a thing and its so smooth.

            Regarding baffle plates in the cam covers, I don't think there are any on the passengers side. You could be thinking if the drivers side with the breather cage.

            It doesn't worry me and if it was a piston, it should have become worse over the last 11 years of driving it, I hope

              It might bea small end, see if Russ's method of removing a plug at a time narrows the choice.
