    Hi Sparky,

James Taylor's book 'Original Triumph Stag' says for 1974 onwards the left hand mirror was YKC2959 and the right hand mirror YKC2960. Both are square with the 'swept-back' support arm. They are in Rimmers catalogue so 'best supplier' would probably depend on price.

    Hope this helps.

Maybe, but I wouldn't want to be driving a Stag around on today's roads with the soft top up and relying solely on the interior mirror........

You mean you can actually see anything in your mirrors?

Strangely, yes. Despite being over 6' I can still adjust the mirrors so that I can view anything coming up behind on either side. The plastic rings supplied by LDparts help: http://www.ldparts.co.uk/shop/shop.p...6860d6260ea912

My car has the square mirror heads: http://www.ldparts.co.uk/shop/shop.p...6860d6260ea912

My first Stag came to me in 1989 with no door mirrors fitted. I soon got that rectified as driving with the soft top up is downright scary without them.

                    Cheers all

                    Sorted them out now
Next question, Where are they positioned. Are there any correct dimensions, i.e 10 inches back and 6 inches down from front at top edges of the door skin??

                    Cheers

A lot of these were fitted aftermarket by dealers, so there doesn't seem to be a definitive position. I recommend that you get someone to hold the mirror against the side of the car to find the best position with you sitting in the driver's seat. Put plenty of masking tape over the general area to protect the paintwork and also to allow your assistand to mark the best position. Somewhere with the mirror as far forward as possible without being affected by the 1/4-light frame, or preventing the 1/4-light from opening is a good starting point.

FWIW on my car the rear end of the base is directly in line with the 1/4-light vertical frame and 2.3/4" down from the chrome trim.

I remember when refurbishing my door cards, that the old ones I guess originals had holes, specifically I believe for use on cars destined for the US market, for remote positioning mechanisms for wing mirrors. I wonder if any were fitted or if any survive?
