New Fuel Saving Device - Has anyone tried it?

I read a piece in the September issue of Practical Classics, relating to a fuel saving device that they're trying.
It is from a company called 'Premium Fuel Solutions'; and is a fuel catalyst that re-ignites unburned fuel.
The editors of PC say that they have achieved a fuel saving on a 1275cc A-series Mini of almost 10mpg.
When tested on other cars - Rover 3500S, Citroen DS and a Morris Minor - the savings were nearer 5mpg.
They say that at present their findings are far from conclusive, but they'll provide further updates.
Has anyone on this forum fitted it to their car? If so, what were the effects if any?
    Cheers,
    Frank

Quoted from their website "Our system provides a very simple yet effective solution. We use a unique solution which acts as a catalyst to capture unburnt fuel. The ‘captured’ fuel is then re-ignited resulting in a complete burn. The fluid we use is a Petroleum Distillate Oil, which is vaporised into the positive crank side of the exhaust manifold, by means of a specially engineered container and injection process."

I presume they mean they inject some guff into the exhaust, OK there may be a chemical reaction that cleans up the emissions. How can you increase performance and fuel consumption after the bangs have taken place, as once the exhaust valves are open, it is all over.

I haven't yet seen the PC article but on their website there's a testimonial letter from a John Simpson of Boston. Could this be the same JS who is PC's head mechanic?

I agree with John... vaporised into the positive crank side of the exhaust manifold...???

The petroleum distillate oil probably costs more than petrol, anyway.

Could this be about fooling the Lamda sensor into thinking the exhaust is too rich, which then puts things in motion for a leaner burn, and some fuel economy? But at what overall cost.

Sounds very similar to an after burner perhaps we should be looking at how much "thrust" we can get of a stag engine not BHP!

10mpg on a Mini 1275 that would be a 30% saving! The usual snake oil. Are Rimmers still selling those magic bits of air spinning bent tin?

Use it in conjunction with this and you will almost have Perpetual motion.
