restoration help

Hi all
I am about to start a restoration of a mk1 it requires sills,front wings,floor repairs and at least one door skin in what order would you suggest i start in order to get the best panel fit

Hi Graham
I started with the structural stuff. Sills and floor. The worst parts are where the floor sits underneath the inner sill lip. The damage is to the bottom of the inner sill and you cant see the rot until you get the outer sill off. Also where the floor sits above the two outriggers (front and rear) the box section will be full of flaky stuff and holds damp.. the inevitable result.

Have a look at my thread " 73stag rebuild" loads of pictures also Drews "Blue and White Bavarian" He has some excellent tips and details on his rebuild too. there are others but these two are ongoing in some detail.
I Completed one side then the other then went on to the more cosmetic stuff. Keep the whole thing straight by leaving the Tee roof bar on and if necessary put door gap straps in. This will keep the shell nice and straight and things will all fit back later!

if it was me i would start with the sills, first you have to cut part of the front wing to fit a sill you mite have to ( you will have to repair the A post and B post )then fit the floors and out riggers, fit the wing and leave the door till last, if you leave the door last you can adjust the fit to suit the gap
