    Blue petrol

While in Italy, filled my spare petrol can, used some yesterday in the strimmer and was suprised to find it was a deep blue/green colour. Google suggests this is just a dye to indicate tax status (like out red diesel), but more concerned it could be bio fuel as car exhaust was really black over there, either that or its removed the pigment from the inside of the can! Comments?

Don't know about Italy, but I'm pretty sure here that the different companies dye their petrol (Aral=blue, Shell=yellow, Esso=red). The fuel comes from the same refineries and the colour dye gets added when the individual companies add their own "special" ingredients. It has no effect, just enables the different brands to be distinguished from one another.
    The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

Ah ok, don't recall the particular garage I filled it, but did notice the exhaust was very sooty while over in Europe, and just concerned what I might have bought. Didn't realise companies individually coloured their fuel, don't think we do over here - whats the purpose do you know?

      Cheers

That explains it - well done. It was attendant service so he must have selected the appropriate colour. Suprised it wasn't a rusty brown tho.....

I taped the headlights for beam deflector (as I'm a cheapskate who hates shelling out for proper deflectors that fall of anyway) and colour coded with blue tape!
