    Wot's this bit?

    153421.

Can't see it on the car or in my parts bin. Is it something welded inside the bodywork, or should I start being worried?

    Cheers

    Drew

Hi Drew. I couldnt find it either on mine. Rimmers show it as a spacer /washer so maybe they were not fitted

Just refitted my diff and don't remember seeing that bit. 134233 wasn't there either, I assume because nyloc nuts are now used as opposed to plain ones originally.

Hi Drew, from memory its a washer under the head of the support pin. Its welded inside the rear support crossmember. Pity these pins weren't available when I had mine apart on my resto. NB not sure why they're welded in, would have thought an access hole in the hood well and bolt would have been better - maybe it needs the rigidity?

          Hi Drew,

Just went out and looked at mine, as I wasn't sure. What's not shown in the drawing is where the bodywork fits in. The order appears to be:

Hole in box frame with this washer 153421 welded in place inside the box section
          Locating Pin 158936 drops through
The Frame Metalwork (forms the box section)
The Upper Bush 134235 is offered up, followed by locating the cross member (mounting plate 311268) then the lower bush and fixings.

The washer 153421 isn't visible to the casual observer, you've got to look for it through the holes in the base of the tonneau stowage compartment and is hard to recognise. It would appear to have the effect of being a strengthening washer, to provide circumferential support into the box section for the loadings imparted by the cross member.

          Hope that helps,
          Duncan, Skye.

Great replies lads! It's thankfully as I suspected then. That's good news. There are quite a few rogue spacers and washers on my car which have seemingly crept in over the years after the original ones have been lost, so I'm always on the look out for the correct bits!

Thanks @ Duncan for checking his car out!

            Cheers

Damn.. Just spent an hour looking for those washers!

I think I'm spending more time in the attic than the Garage
