    Copper Brake Line Routes

    Brake line routing

I am trying to fit the two front copper brake lines in the engine bay. One goes to the left brake and one to the right. The lines seem too long by about 20 or 30cm, and maybe they do not go direct in the most obvious route, so I dont want to shorten them.

Has anyone got a picture of the original route of the lines in the area of the brass connector/distributor?

Ah, thanks for that. It looks like they go towards the rear first then forwards and down. Do they share a double clip into the body? (the only double clips I have are for brake line + fuel line).

There are two double clips on the front bulkhead. Frankly I think they're crap. They don't seem to have been designed for the bulkhead insulation panel (at least the replacement ones don't) so you end up compressing the pad where the pipes fit into the clips. Both the replacements I bought snapped during installation. I switched to metal clips and put a spacer behind them so as not to compress the insulation panel.

I have done the same. The pipes were too long as well so I have had to "lose" some pipe in an extra bend! I made some custom pipe clips out of some stainless steel strip with a screw fixing between the two pipes. I also cut a small piece of tube to pack the clip out away from the bulkhead so as not to squash the bulkhead pad. Looks OK but its not original!!!

I bought a copper brake pipe kit and found a couple of the lengths were too long, so I cut them and did a re-flair.

Hi Guys, If you are replacing the plastic/nylon clips with steel/ssteel please use a piece of small bore rudder/plastic hose between the copper pipe and the clip because any vibration/movement will wear the softer copper pipe and cause a leak or breakage.
              Cheers Ian A

Done that too. actually used " high temp rubber" underneath the pipe and the clip on an extra one on the chassis rail and over the pipe only on the two clips on the bulkhead

These are the chaps you need. Google 'insulated p-clips':

I'm surprised any of the lines would be supplied too long. I fitted a complete set of automec copper brake lines and once bent into shape where a perfect replacement for the old steel lines that they where replacing. It was a few years ago though and things could have changed with manufactures.
