    Strangled by your seatbelt....

Had the Stag for about 6 weeks now, and one thing we don't like is the inertia reel seatbelts because they gradually tighten up on you and make you feel you are slowly being strangled. I think they are original, the drivers one is a little frayed. Modern seatbelts aren't like this, they don't seem to have such strong springs. I am willing to replace them, but hesitant to purchase new ones from Stag parts suppliers as we may get just the same thing.

Has anybody suffered this problem and come up with a satisfactory remedy?

    TIA

Back in the good old days when inertia reel belts were relatively new you used to be able to get a device that clipped onto the belt that took the tension off but would immediately release when the belt was tensioned through a sharp stop, or indeed a frontal impact. Can't remember the proper name now, but it worked on a similar principle to this http://autosafeproducts.co.uk/heightadjuster.html.

I remember buying a couple of them for my wifes 81 Metro as the belts on that were always tight and rubbed at the neck line - no adjusters in those days!

Just done another search on google - this is the device http://www.care4car.com/productdispl...lunk_Klip.html

      Ah yes... great isn't it?

Start off on your trip all smiles and end up gasping for air like a london Marathon runner who only trained for 30 minutes before the race...

I use a very technical solution - a clothes peg. Clip it on the belt at the B-post pillar to stop it being recoiled.

My wife has a different approach, she has a seat belt pad, to help with 'pressure' on her shoulder. This actually helps by bunching up under the bracket on the B-post pillar.:P

      Hope this helps!

Thanks for the replies. I was hoping someone might say "replace your belts with X...", but first off I am going to try the clothes peg trick - only with one of those freezer bag clips, its made for the job!

            Hi Al,

Spookily, I was talking to Brian Turner this weekend about that same problem. He refurbishes Stag seat belts as part of his car trimming business. He has developed some form of belt extension to position the belt lower. His 'phone number is 01622 884302. He's also well known within the Club for his high standard of soft top & frame refurbishments.

I'm begining to understand why you get so much flak, its not just the colour....

                Well Al, it's like this......

It's tough being the epitome of sartorial elegance, but someone has to do it. Having a Java green Stag goes with the territory.........

It does however generate some jealousy amongst mere mortals, and being mere mortals and therefore primitive of emotional response, this jealousy is often expressed as outbursts of violence.........

                I have broad shoulders.....:dude:
