    Choke cable electrical fault?

    Hi folks.

I am a newbie here so feel free to point me to FAQs if already answered (I did check FAQs but did not see an answer).

I have a 1976 Mk2 with electronic SU fuel pump. Issue I have is poor starting and it is not the pump or interia switch. Just imagine chilly morning, car in garage pull out choke and turn to lock, attempt to start engine - no fuel pump tick and warning lamp cluster does all wonder of tricks (high beam warning illuminates, right flasher indicator does a fast blink etc etc). Perhaps the engine will fire but soon runs out of petrol in the pipe and so dies. Wiggle around the choke cable and normality returns (fuel pump fires up, warning cluster lamps return to normal) and car starts as normal until I start to slowly push back the choke cable and same thing happens again. OK - I know how to work around the problem but I really would like to trace this fault. It has been in to a Triumph specialist twice but fault is intermitent and it did not show whilst in for service. If I get the warning cluster peforming as it should by wiggling the choke control knob then no problem with starting. Warm day and/or engine and electrics warm then no problem.

Any one had a similar problem? Any known cure?

    Graham
