Hi all
I wonder if you can help me with an electrical query around the door courtesy switch and the interior/puddle/T-bar lights for Mk 2 1976 that is driving me mad.
As I understand it, opening one of the doors should bring on that door's puddle light, the correct side console light to light the footwell , and one bulb of the T-Bar light. Looking at the wiring digrams in the Repair Operations Manual, I can see that this is all controlled from the 'purple'-based set of wires yet I cannot get mine to operate according to the description and the wiring.
The wiring diagram shows the door courtesy switch as having two wires connected - purple (+12v) and purple/red (for drivers side) . Opening the door connects the two together and 'makes' the circuit, the purple/red goes to the big switch on the console which feeds the aforementoined drivers-side lights.
However, when I look in my car, the door courtesy switch has only a single wire, which completes a circuit to earth when the door is opened. There is no second terminal on the door courtesy switch, and a look in the Rimmer's catalog shows a switch identical to mine with the single terminal only. The bizarre thing is that the wiring loom in the A-post area does not have a spare wire looking as though it needs a 'terminal' to attach to.
Do I have the wrong door switch ? Is the reality of 70's 'British Leyland' wiring different to that set out in the diagrams ?
Any suggestions as to how I can get it correct gratefully received.
Thanks in advance
Malcolm R
