    Ignition wiring.........help!!

Ive a 72 stag with 6v coil and ballast resistor, Ive recently fitted lumenition electronic ignition (power unit, sensor - no coil) and have following problems:
poor starting and misfiring, re set the timing, or remove distributor cap and then replace and then 8 cylinders are all is ok til next morning
on attempting to restart I have to repeat the process again, once all is ok after a few miles there is a slight reduction in performace (when labouring at low revs)
Ive fitted new dis cap and HT leads to no avail
Nxt step is to replace coil, then original points, and send lumention back to supplier for testing/replacing
Other symptoms include intermitant wandering Rev counter from 5000 - 25000 and an increased blood pressure!!
    Re the wiring .....
I have 2 cream/orange coming off the loom going nowhere to Female connectors
    1 x cream/orange going to + coil
    purple from -coil to lumenition
black from + ballast to +coil
    cream/brown to -ballast
I had a look at some stags at the Beaulieu autojumble today and wiring appears different on all of them!!

Help please on a diagnosis and prognosis
and is the wiring ok?? what do those 2cream/orange do?

Thanks in advance for any help

Did all the problems start right after fitting the unit?
I assume you have the right fitting kit FK113 for TV8? (for an Optronic). Have you had a look at it running in the dark to see if there's any arcing.
Probably a really dumb question but haven't got a clear plastic dizzie cap have you?
As long as you've got red to the + and brown to the - on the coil it's hard to go wrong with wiring the unit unless you've got a bad ground connection.

My lumenition system called for a megaspark coil The passed owner had installed the system. Is your car a MK1 ? my MK1 electrial shows a white / orange going from the coil positive to the ballast resister then going to the starter. You should also have a white/slate cominng from the ballast resister going to the tach, A MK1 tach will not work with a electronic system it will eventually get fried. you need a MK2 tach, do a search on hear and it will be explained to you. After a cleaning up my wiring loom due to a the white slate from the resister melting the insulation my system runs fine. Its not a big issue to make the conversioin but like all systems if you have wiring problems this will show them up. Good luck.

Have you taken the power feed for the Lumenition from a 12v feed? If you take it from the coil it will only be getting 6 volts - just a thought - took mine off the fuel pump cut out.

Tell that to my MGB with the RVC (MK1 type) tach and lumenition - been happily working for 15 years like that, and no sign of fish or chips cooked yet......

Never had a problem with my Mk1 Stag tacho in the 15 years between fitting Lumenition and selling the Stag. Must just be lucky...
