    Thicker rear spring poly spacers

Whilst looking in the Superflex site I noticed they sell standard rear spring insulators and ones 5mm thicker which raise the rear end by 7.5mm. Maybe of interest if your rear end is slightly saggy.

They also sell bush kits for BMW rear ends but I guess the few people who have done that conversion are aware.

    John.

This may be a suitable moment to share some spring trivia with you.......

I bought new springs from Rimmers and was aghast to read recently that aftermarket springs are too stiff and will raise the back end in an unsightly fashion. Rushing out to the garage, I compared old and new springs:

      Wire diameter old 13mm
      Wire diameter new 13.5mm

      Active coils old 8.5
      Active coils new 10

      Uncompressed length old 315mm
      Uncompressed length new 315mm

The above plugged into a spring rate calculator churns out (in old money) a spring rate of 331 lbs/inch for the old ones and 332 lbs/inch for the new ones.

Panic over, assuming the same material is used. (and yes, I know that assume makes an ASS out of U and ME!)
      The answer isn't 42, it's 1/137

It seems to me that you'd have to remove the springs to fit the spacers... New springs are only 25 quid each. Wouldn't that be a better solution to rear end sag ... other than liposuction.

my saggy rear end was caused by elongated holes in the subframe arms. Easy to check. loosen the 4 bolts that hold the diff nose to sub frame. Jack the diff up and then tighten everything up again. if your holes are more like slots then the car will sit better but will revert back to its saggy arse stance a few yards up the road.

I fixed the slots back to holes but still found the drivers side sat lower than passenger side so I simply swapped springs from side to side and all is again level.

New springs can be a minefield because they take time to settle which could leave the car looking quite odd while they do so.
