I have had this in my stag for 30 odd years, does any one have one and know a way to get the carbs to work well?

If your Essex engine is fitted with the original Weber 38DGAS I can probably sort it for you. I supply almost identical carbs for the Stag engine. What are the symptoms?

I got the original from Essex engines, it has lasted very well, they are a great firm. I have the webber 38 dgms and fitted a repair kit to it. One guy said to cut and blank off the anti stall pipe bit on the webber, done it, after all these years of the same problem, it works great now, I must have asked 100 people about it and at last someone knows about them!! I've done loads over the years and I will take a picture and post the engine bay here. I have the adaptor plate from essex engines in it, one snapped once, but I was canning it!! Anyway, carb, I still have the 'hunting' ( i think its called) when I do a constant 30mph, I have ordered 0.50 idle jets to try out, might work. Also I keep telling the cops, I cant do 30mph, its the carbs not me orifecer!!

I had a simlar intermitent misfire on mine recently and was down to a dodgy plug. Fitted a new set and ran as smoth as silk. Ive fitted a set of these leads in mine to, expensive but fantastic quality:
You can pick them up a bit cheaper than this if you look about.Last edited by Guest; 19 September 2011, 15:52.

Quality and genuine parts means everything. There are even some fake spark plugs around. Replace any suspect ignition parts with parts from www.ldpart.co.uk
