hi all . just fitted two very good second hand doors to car had got a friend to make some new bottom hinge pins for me i have no play on hinges now trying to get gaps all round doors the same before car goes in for repaint .what should be the right gap or is every stag different fit the best you can . stewart

Hi Stewart, there's a joke going round, that you can tell a restored Stag from an original, the restored one will have decent panel gaps, well, it's not a joke ! My choice would be to get some pictures of other Stags that look good. Martin. -

Mine are original and I'm content with them because of that, but by modern standards they would be regarded as poor. Get the back, front and bottom edges parallel to the body, or as near as you can, and you won't go far wrong. The double curved section at the top front is a dead loss, the quality wasn't up to the design and they virtually never fit properly, but stand 6 feet back, and if the other lines are not right, they stick out like the proverbial.

In 1965 we were treated to a visit to Bertone on our way back from Aussie, we watched while they welded the doors into place, in Alfa Romeo's then cut them open again, there is no other way to get a PERFECT door fit ! Martin.
