    Repelling Cats!

Does anyone know how to repel cats?

A cat is using my Stags outdoor cover as a scratching post. All four corners and very worryingly the roof have been scratched to pieces. Thankfully the soft top is still undamaged, but I am scared stiff it is going to be ruined. As far as I know it is original and I would like to keep it that way!

    Anyone have any good ideas?

    Cheers

Cats don't like citrus, so maybe spray something with a lemony scent on the cover, or head down to B&Q to pick up some cat repellent. We used to have a problem with next door's cat sleeping on the roof of the Saab convertible, but a ring of cat repellent around the driveway kept it away, we just had to reapply it after it rained.

If there is suitable ground for installation, we found ultrasonic cat repellers useful for the keeping them off our seed beds. Personally I would have gone for something more drastic but my wife held me back.

I've got umpteem cats (they just arrived over time) and they just love snoozing on hoods. Problem is that they also love sliding down painted surfaces with their claws extended = lots of scratches. I have found that a good quality thick inside car cover lets them get up, snooze and get down agin without their claws getting through to the paint. I use Hamilton car covers. Previous covers were too thin and when the cat jumped up on to the car, the cover slipped and the cat instictively gripped with its claws and scratched the paint.

It is an exterior Hamilton Classics cover that they have scratched to pieces! It isn't caused by them walking over it, it is pretty mangled - I will post a pic when I get a chance to take one.

dave ,past experiments have proved to be good using old aftershave ,perfume in fact anything with a strong scent liberaly sprayed about the area in question, cats dont like that.i must admit to generaly being an animal lover BUT I HATE CATS! useless things . my gran used to do this and hang bits of reflective tape and mirrored objects in her veg patch and flowered borders to deter them from digging that seemed to work also but probably not as effective as a revolving stool and scattergun lol.

have the hose primed and ready, catch the little bugger at it and then give it a thorough dousing.

Done this several times, 1st time the cat was on the bonnet and took half the paint with it as it scarpered

Cats have a long memory and you can more or less guarantee that it will NOT bother you again.

Slightly off topic'ish - My dad had a problem with a feral tomcat spraying his front door - he lives in the middle of nowhere. Cats protection league lent him a trap which would catch the animal and then CPL would do a brick job on the cats nads FOC. All he managed to catch though were various neighbours cats all of which went loopy inside the cage. Dad released them unharmed but never sees them anymore, they keep well clear now . Maybe worth a look

Our cat sleeps on top of my Stag, whether it has the cover (Hamilton outdoor) on or not - the soft top is fine - the cover shows some signs of wear, but i know outdoor covers are consumables so it will need changing anyway so i'm not losing any sleep over it

If I'd caught the person who keyed my Rover 216 Vitesse Efi back in the 1990's, that was my intention for their punishment too

I love Cats,..please don't harm them. They are pets and part of someones family, just like a dog would be. Imagine the sorrow and grief we will feel (and our children) if our pet did not come home.

I have no intention of harming a cat, or anything else for that matter, so you can rest easy there Sukh.

I have yet to see the pest in action, just the mess my cover is in. I have chased one across the car park, but that is as far as it goes!

I posted a similar question on the other forum about 4 years ago! Our cat "Fluffy" weighs around 7 kilos, yes he's a big boy! He insisted on sleeping on my soft top and it eventually stretched it. I the resorted to lowering the soft top and puting a car cover over the car. This worked for a while because he fell inside the car. Then the the clever b*ugger worked out if the top is up or down with the car cover on over the top! My only solution was to provide him with a better place to sleep, I also spayed it with "catnip" he can't resist the smell. I'm sure a combination of this and "Old Spice/Brut" should do the trick!

He does like to be comfy!
                              regards,
