Parts needed for estimates (Tooling Fund)

I have been asked by an SOC official to help the Tooling Fund source some parts to use for estimating remanufacture of stag parts using a new process. These parts do not need to be serviceable, so long as they are original type parts. Unfortunately, most of the parts I have are already fitted to my car, and I dont have any spares.

If anyone would like to loan or donate any of the following spare parts please let me know:

    Chrome plated door handle bowl
    Petrol cap assembly
    Air intake grille.

How long would they be needed? and would i get them back?

The air intake you need is the one behind the bonnet in front of the windscreen? I have two spares you can have for no cost. Just the postage... I might be able to drop it off at a suitable location... please ask more if its the part you need. I also have a door handle bowl..... same deal

Thanks 73stagman and Phil, thats great. Please PM to let me know postage cost and I will get back to you. I am sure SOC will reimburse me the postage.

Please note: (& Ben), the parts should only be used for a company to estimate the costs of manufacture, then they should return them, but in case they dont its best only to donate surplus parts that are no longer required or serviceable, ie of no intrinsic value, the kind of thing that clutters up your garage but you cant bring yourself to chuck it out!

That all sounds interesting. Hasn't the air-intake grille been under detailed consideration for ages already?

I wonder if anyone from the SOCTFL will update us on any if this in due course, as they went silent concerning the matter of hardttop rails after instigating a poll on here didn't they?

SOCTFL's website appears to be down as well.

I would have thought that all these items were plentiful from the breakers. If they go down the road to door handle bowls they would have to make two types as the Mk1 and Mk2 are different. I beleive there was a chap in Australia that had some made in metal (anyone confirm?) that makes sence. There was talk of the air intake vent being made of plastic the last I heard of, I filed down the corroded parts in between the vents and had it re-chromed, then painted the inner vents black - good as new.

I also have a boot lid they can have. I'm sure there would be use for these items to be remade.

When I inquired on the SOCTFL website I got absolutely no acknowledgement whatsoever.

I now have at least bought some "tool funded" parts, the rear light gaskets which were an excellent quality item so as long as we ALL start to see some benefit then its Ok in my eyes.

I would like to see more reports from them though... where are the cylinder heads? Why has it taken so long to get anywhere with these and are they likley to be priced beyond normal peoples funds

The tooling fund committee are meeting this Friday, and I have a feeling that these comments will now be discussed. The reported absence of the website will also be looked into. The requested loan of the three components is as a result of a new company having approached a club member at a show, asking if they could quote to remanufacture them. Such offers are never turned down. Should the prices be worth considering, members will be kept informed.

On the subject of SOCTFL, can somebody clarify something for me?

In their advert in the mag they say that SOCTFL was founded over 20 years ago, yet only lists 10 items (excluding left and right of the same item).

Have they really only been behind one item every two years or are there other items that they haven't shown in the ad ? If they are behind other items then why not show them in the advert ?

                      Cheers

                      Julian

You can order the heads from Arbinger Hammer (sp?) IIRC they are £2.5k which is great value for a pair of heads, whether it's economical for most owners is a different matter.

Yep - they are supplied through Abinger Hammer, when i enquired a while ago they were available, but the price had risen from the original £2.5K estimate - and the VAT rise will had added a little

It would be interesting to know how many have been sold wouldnt it.

So thats about half the value of an average (condition) Stag? Thats quite expensive in my book... certainly not within the price range of the "normal" blokes I work with.
How can it be great value if its not economical for "most owners" I think thats a contradiction in terms and why can they only be bought from one supplier? If they are SOCTFL funded why arent they available from all the usual suppliers as per the advert in the magazine (page 8 Sept 2011)

I keep typing awkward and controversial questions and opinions but deleting them so perhaps its time for me to leave the subject alone...
