    Heater Control Lights

Can anyone tell me if the heater controlls have any night illumination with dash lights. My Haynes manual electrical circuit does not detail where the lights are they are all just dash illumination. As a new stag owner I find groping in the dark to find the heater controls a pain ( at least it is a good heater ). Or am I looking for something that was never fitted.

Also when I bought the car I was told that it had a radiator with an extra core in it how can I tell as it does not look new in any way. The car is a series 2 1974 and I bought it off the original owner at the end of july and it was a local car bought in Petersfield ( Hampshire ) and has lived within 10 miles of there all its life. Since buying it I have replaced the Bumpers ( Harringtons SS ) had new chrome new hood, refoamed and covered the seats and as the tyres were dated 1985 they have all been replaced. This Stag is certainly more comfortable than theTR4 A I used to have and just as much fun to drive.

    Hi Peter,

I am afraid the heater controls do not have any illumination. I believe the US Spec cars did, but the parts won't fit a RHD car.

Some owners have fitted discrete LED lights on the front of the coin tray. If you use the Stag a lot (and I highly recommend it ) you will get used to where the controls are anyway so it will become less of an issue. (Well that's what I think anyway!)

It does seem bizarre doesn't it that the heater controls had no illumination from new.

I know what you mean - it is called "getting old".

The TR is an out-and-out no frills sports car with late 50/60s technology, whereas the Stag is not in anyone's book a sports car. It is a GT in the true sense of the word.

I love driving them both, but for different reasons.

Hiya Peter, welcome to the Stag forum. I did have the tiny LED light that Dave mentioned, but it packed up and I couldn't find any more. There is a hole to the right of the auto selector where the immobiliser lived, and I've installed a chrome number plate light bolt, it's green to match the dash. The beam comes out of the side and lights the console controls perfectly, I'll post a pic if you like. I never did get used to not finding the heater controls or the radio on switch, my sympathy is with you. Martin.

Peter at least mine was a 4A with an improvement on the tractor supension even if it did retain the tractor engine.

Martin a picture would be usefull as I feel it needs lighting.

          Regards Peter

Hi Peter, pictures as promised, these came as a pair from Amazon "number plate bolts, green light bolts" they're £8.89, they come in several colours but you want green. The light doesn't flood the console, it seems to pick out the white markings. Martin. console light 006 (600 x 450).jpgconsole light 001 (600 x 450).jpg

Trouble is it's shaped to the curves on the LHD dash, there are two lamps inside it. I tried hard to get hold of one, to see if I could make a mirror image, but they're scarcer than rocking horse s++t Martin.

Anyone thought of putting a light in the ashtray which operates when opened. Who uses the ashtray for the purpose it was meant for?

                            Rod,

That is what I was planning in doing, however my ashtray is full of spare fuses, clips, nuts & bolts, coins and other junk.

Hi Carmine, with regard to the SS bumpers I found the whole transaction to be smooth the delivery and wrapping were superb, There were 2 issues I had that were overcome, the first was that the ends of the rear bumper were solid and not cut through to allow the iron to take the correct position, they had to be cut with a hacksaw to open them up . I was nervous at first but it had to be done and was easy with the use of a flap disc to smooth the cuts. the other issue I had was a missing captive nut from the cage at the end of the blade. Note the standard purchase does not include the rear triumph badge / light for Mk1. I receved a tracking notification that they had left Ho Chi Min city on the 10th Aug at 1700 and they went to Hong Kong - leipzig- east midlands- southampton and I received them on the 12TH at 11.30 am. Better than our second class post. I think they look as good as a chrome set and I dont think anyone has noticed the difference.

Retain your old fixings as they only supply bolts to attach to the bumper irons.

                              I can recomend them.

                              Peter
