    odd thing to happen...

I haven't used the Stag for a couple of weeks, the last time I smelt something odd, after following an old van for the last quarter mile to my house, so didn't bother investigating as when I arrived the smell wasn't there.

Needed to go on a 110 mile errand today, so thought I'd blow the cobwebs out of the V8 for a change after so much MGB driving.

Lifted the bonnet to do the standard level checks, to find the washer bottle melted on the exhaust manifold and couldn't get to the dipstick.

Turned out the pop rivets holding on the bracket had corroded through and dropped the bottle, bracket et al, down the gap.

I don't think it could have fouled the steering, but the risk of fire from the plastic on the exhaust was considerable, so might be worth you checking and maybe replacing these rivets, either with new ones or screws just to be safe......

The run up the M25, top down at 85 was magic.....

    Been anywhere good Russ?

I bought a fire extinguisher for the Stag today - lets hope I never have to use it!

      Hello Russ,

This happened to me, too. Not because of rusted rivets, but because I was stupid enough (after having checked the spark plugs) not to put the bottle back into its bracket... How stupid can you get?!

      Kind regards,
      Dieter.

              Hello Steve,

That is the lesson I had to learn, too. The original brackets are a bit too wide for the reproduction bottles. So I had to make my bracket a bit narrower to really hold the bottle. Other than that the reproduction bottles seem a perfect fit.

              Kind regards,
              Dieter - from Germany.

Me to! I think mine came off going over a sleeping policeman, once the plastic has set on your manifold you can never get rid of it - Alan

Just done that all the way from Dartford to the lake district Traffic was rubbish, M6 Closed at one point. Took me 10 1/2 hours. Stag didn't miss a beat. Now in Scotland and haven't even lifted the bonnet!

That sounds great, you are there just in time for midge season.
                    Enjoy.

Should just be at the end of midge season I think! Too much rain for the midges anyway! Got well and truely soaked today.

(Drove across Rannoch moor in the rain with the roof own too. . Luckily it stopped before I had to so I didn't get wet. ).

Got lots of waves driving theough Ambleside in the lakes the other day...

...although I think most of that was due to me driving the wrong way around the one way system. Doh!

(I came out of a small side road and didn't spot the left turn only sign)!

                      Rgds
