I haven't used the Stag for a couple of weeks, the last time I smelt something odd, after following an old van for the last quarter mile to my house, so didn't bother investigating as when I arrived the smell wasn't there.
Needed to go on a 110 mile errand today, so thought I'd blow the cobwebs out of the V8 for a change after so much MGB driving.
Lifted the bonnet to do the standard level checks, to find the washer bottle melted on the exhaust manifold and couldn't get to the dipstick.
Turned out the pop rivets holding on the bracket had corroded through and dropped the bottle, bracket et al, down the gap.
I don't think it could have fouled the steering, but the risk of fire from the plastic on the exhaust was considerable, so might be worth you checking and maybe replacing these rivets, either with new ones or screws just to be safe......
The run up the M25, top down at 85 was magic.....
