    Manual Carbs

I am wanting to replace the floatvalves on the carbs as I often get a smell of petrol when I stop. I have a Haynes manual and I have done this job on my previous TR with Strombergs. I am confused in that there are 3 cables going to the carbs I have Identified the accelerator and the choke but what is the third gong to the RH carb.

    Hi Confused,
That will be the choke control cable for the rh carb.
    Cheers...Al

You should have two choke and one accelerator.

No need to disconnect those cables (esp if choke operating fine), just remove the centre nut and flip the carbs over!

Hiya, The nasty soft brass thing for the advance / retard pipe, that blocks access to the main nut, is a gas size with a tapered thread, the nearest size to it I can find is 11mm, or 7/16th, prepare to destroy it and replace with new. If your car's an auto, you'll need to disconnect the kick down cable yoke. Martin.

While you have it out you can run a file round it, works a treat and not so difficult to remove next time.

                - - - - and don't over-tighten it, the taper thread seals easily. Martin.
