    Scruffy Hard Top Head Lining

Hi Guys having heard that this fine weather and the temperature is dropping by 20degrees I took the opertunity today to look at the Hard top as I will be running during the winter if roads are free from salt. The seals need sorting but the lining is looking stained around the edges probably the original and glue is showing through, I dont want to replace the headlining at this point as I feel it is not my sort of DIY job and I would get glue everywhere.

My question is this Is there a paint that could sucessfully be sprayed or brushed on to cover the stains, I dont want any more trimming expenses at the moment having had seats recovered / refoamed and a new hood fitted

    Any reccomendations ?

You can get aerosol paints for vinyl, try Halfrauds.

Hi Peter, before you go painting it, try wiping with a cloth with some thinners on it, it won't damage the plastic but should get the old glue off. Martin.

I will take pictures and try thinners first, but I feel it is not surface adhesive but staining coming through from underneath. As I am still working it will be later in the week, before I start repainting and I have to kill some rust and I am also replacing the split rubber seals.

you cannot get brush on vinyl paint any more so it's spray only I'm afraid,I did mine and replaced a torn rear section at the same time and the finish is great but unless you want it really bright go for cream or off white as it's a hell of a difference when it's done obviously you have to mask off big style and do it outside if you can.

I had some Renovo hood reviver seep through to the inside of my soft top, leaving 2 or 3 horrible dark stains on the beige interior of the soft top.
Does anyone know of a spray or an idea to get rid of the stains,a light colour spray worries me a bit with that coming through to the outside so I would have to put a few light coats me thinks.

                        Morning peter ,

I have the same problems with mine, as i was quoted over £500 for a re-furb i will probably have to do the same as you,
let me know how you get on.

                        Many thanks Glyn

Another method that I used many years ago on two saloon vehicles was two coats of brushed on emulsion paint.
No joking, it certainly hid similar looking stains and was very cheap.

Before resorting to paint, it's worth trying a strong solution of biological washing powder, it's quite astonishing how well it works on upholstery and head linings. Martin.
