    British Motor Heritage Limited

    Just out of curiosity.......

I was browsing a TR6 forum and came across a moaning thread that British Motor Heritage don't do decent sill panels and thought I'd pop over to their site and have a butchers. For crying out loud, their TR6 panels page looks like the Triumph Parts Catalogue and they're moaning???!!!!

I then drifted on to the Stag page, poured a cup of coffee, and decided to sit down over the next hour or so to see if they have anything I need. What a joke! The "other parts" for a Stag are three items-

    - a bolt for the crownwheel in the differential
    - a screw cap for the master cylinder
    - a mainbearing set .010" oversize

My euphoria was dampened, however, when I noticed that the main bearing set is for a TR6. Maybe you can buy two sets, and with a file and a vice make one Stag set out of them.

What is the reason for the Stag being treated like the fat, spotty, ginger who turns up for the interview as an Armani suit sales representative?

Does the "Limited" in British Motor Heritage Limited mean "limited to Triumphs which don't have a British V8"? (I note that the TR8 is on the list)

Were all the Stag pressings destroyed in a TSR.2 "crush-the-moulds-in-front-of-the-work-force-so-that-they-know-the-project-is-really-dead-and-won't-be-revived" orgy?

Were they shipped to India, China, Russia?

Were they put safely away, but Eric the Storeman can't remember where?

It certainly puts the efforts of the SOCTFL in a very positive light. Perhaps they could merge forces with BMH and help out those poor TR6 boys?

Coffee's cold now and the wallet is still intact.

I seem to recall fairly recently that someone told me that some Stag tooling was on loan to a pressing company and the Pykies stole it for scrap over a weekend.

British Motor Heritage are still pressing the following Stag panels from original tooling; Both front wings, both outer cills, rear valance and the front apron (in front of the bonnet), all of which should be available from the Stag specialists. All the tooling for the rest of the panels is now lost, and assumed to have been sold as scrap, although there was a rumour at one time that some of it might have been used as ballast in shipyards! All other pressed panels still available are made from privately owned low volume tools.

That pretty much sounds like what I heard. I beleive that BMHT managed to obtain all of the body tooling for the TR6, along eith the MGB and Mini so unfortunately the Stag does not have such good luck. We don't do too badly though, with SOCTFL's help most of the panels we are likely to need are available.

Personally, i think BMHT do a good job given the pressings available to them - and if i were an MGB, TR6 or Mini owner i would be worshipping at their door
