It also suffered from timing gear failure and the oil pump drive shaft could wear and fail.
Having said that in the Grannies and Capris of the time it did make the cars shift at a rapid rate.

Nothing else sounds like a V8 but with a good exhaust system they can sound good. I had a 2.8 (Cologne) V6 in my Sunbeam Alpine, with a proper full twin exhaust and it always drew a small crowd of lustful onlookers. The sound at full speed was more like a howl than a V8 throb.Comment
