Honestly? I looked at buying my own bottle but once you add up the cost of getting them filled it becomes less economical...I think it worked out like this. You pay for the bottle empty. You then pay to have it filled. then you pay to have it delivered or go and collect it which in my case would have been over a hundred mile round trip. Then once it was mine I would be responsible for testing it (its a pressure vessel) when it was required and the hassle of getting back to get it refilled made it a no brainer. I think you have to get them filled where you bought them because I can guarrantee your local BOC or Air products supplier is not going to help you.
I went and opened a BOC account and I have a "y" size bottle of "Argoshield light" and it costs me £9.00 per month plus about £40.00 each time I have to get it filled. I had to get a second one for this project but now all the welding is done. I started to add up what I had spent on disposable bottles at £10.00 each and I used three to do one sill so I stopped adding!
I should have taken it back already but it still has gas in it and I am reluctant to return it half full but now it's just sitting there costing me £9.00 a month it should go.

I did the same when I was restoring my car. Started off using disposables and it cost a fortune (welding was a mammoth task on my car). Then hired a bottle of BOC argoshield and after the restoration ended up keeping the bottle for a year without using it once.
I just use disposables or gasless now for the occasional welding I do.
