    clutch/gearbox

I've had a problem with my gears for a while now,I've gone through a process of illimination, I've replaced the clutch slave cylinder and master cylinder, the slave push rod has been moved to different positions and nothing has made any difference, the problems are once the engine is hot I have trouble selecting reverse and first gears also when changing from second to third it seems to be notchy, the gearbox was rebuilt about two years ago so it should'nt be that, from a cold start up there is no problem, I have also noticed that after driving for a while there seems to be a lot of heat coming from the gearbox area, what I mean is if you put your hand at the base of gearstick it always seems very warm! this may be normal maybe some could tell if theirs is the same, I don't get any judder or slip from the clutch.

    Cheers Cliff

The clutch cover fulcrum ring is worn, I believe Cliff. It doesn't feel like the diaphragm spring is moving over centre - the pedal effort is also quite high.

The only other possibility is the clutch master cylinder bore is smaller than it should be, and it doesn't shift enough fluid..... that would give the same feel to the pedal as the faulty cover ...

Hi Russ the master cylinder is from LDParts with the stainless sleeve so hopefully its not that, so if its the fulcrum ring does that mean a new clutch kit? if so which is the best kit to buy ie:which bearing there seems to be a choice depending on supplier? looks like you got yourself another job! Cliff
PS I've done the vacuum advance

Best kit I've found is the Paddocks modified one with the flat faced release bearing - comes with a fork/cross-shaft overhaul kit too.

Nice light pedal, and less likely to judder with the short gearbox nose.
