    Jaguar gearbox

Good evening all i have been reading the artical in practical classics about the stag, and was courious about the jag gearbox conversion as ive never heard of it before

Has anyone any knowledge of this conversion and why would you not use the stag manual box when converting the car from auto to manual

    thanks keeny

I've only heard of the zf conversion which I have. It is an upgrade to 4 speed auto instead of the usual 3. A manual JAG is quite rare.

I have not read the artical in practical classics but I know that some Jags had the LT77 (Rover 5sp box) so it could be that. On the way home I will have a look in WHS and see if I can get a copy of said mag.

I have seen a car (a Green one) a couple times at different meets and shows. it has a Jag box and the Jag "J" shift selector as well. I think he is a Sussex member, maybe Bob Heritage can confirm this and put you in touch with him.

        Ian.

Ian, that sounds like les m's car (front cover of current mag) however he is not quite from Sussex and has gone back to manual I believe. Apologies if I'm mixed up.

I'm not sure Kevin, I don't think the car I saw was EFI and if that is Les in the picture it's not the same person. I last saw it on the club stand at Bromley in the group that Bob organised I think. Any news on the Puppy yet! My new Boy is in the Mag bottom right page 10.

Is it the green one with Wolfrace wheels Ian? If so I thought that had an MG box - the shift lever isn't a Triumph one though that's for sure.

Definitely a car with a TR V8, racking my brains now, I went to quite a few things this year. might have been blue if not green but I don't think so. One thing I'm sure of is it was a Jag box complete with J selector which he had fitted himself.

I've seen the Staguar The dark red one!

Ian, not aware of one with a MG box! if so it would be a BW anyway I would think

Good luck with the Puppy Kevin

I meant an MG ZF box Ian - are they BW?

To be honest Ian I wouldn't know what a ZF has, BW's are history now. it would have to be RWD for a start and I would assume there would be some complicated electronics that would need to be associated with it as well.

The Wolfrace wheels ring a bell though.

                          Ian.

You are correct I have not moved to Sussex, however the chap that bought the ZF gearbox including the J gate change off me was from said county, and his car is brooklands green.

                              Les.
