The NEW " How to do it" section

    Hi

We are going ahead with this new forum, and this is how we see it working.
Here are my thoughts on setting it up

    1. Set up a panel of experts, about 3. I've spoken with Mike Allen (SOC Technical advisor) who is happy to cast an eye over the contributions but not be on the panel.
    2. Create a new forum, How to do it, with sub sections, this would be read only.
    3. Call for contributions to the section which would be moderated, checked and edited if necessary by the panel before being made live on the forum.

That's it in a basic form

    Your thoughts please

First job is to decide on the panel, then take it forward from there.

"Kryten" has expressed a willingness to help but can't do it all on his own, so we need a few more.

    Best Wishes

    Carl

Great idea. I'm afraid I regard myself as in the users category rather than having the expertise to contribute, but I do hope it gets going.

I have a 1950 American Ford tractor (a Fergie lookalike) and their website has a "how To" section split up as follows:

          Have a look at it.

People are free to submit their " how to's" - not sure if they are pre-moderated, but that would be a good idea. I have found the info there to be invaluable.

I'm happy to assist too. I've pulled my car completely apart, modified, converted it and put it back together again (without any parts left over).Regards,Raoul

                  Hi Raoul,

You have somehow violated the first law of engineering! This law states that if you take something apart and rebuild it enough times, you will have enough parts left over to make another one

No expert but I have got plenty of mods so could help in that area and also know the cooling layout quite well if needed.

                    Cheers Steve

I would suggest that sub sections should fall into the natural categories, e.g Engine, Gearbox, Cooling System, Fuel system etc. Also since each category is a subject in it's own right, can the experts be chosen for their expertise in their field? Eg Stag 157.7 for his knowledge of Strombergs for the Fuel system and so on.

Hi, I don't think we're looking for experts, loads of folk have experience of different issues, the correctness/accuracy would be sorted by the editor/s. Totally agree about sub-sections, with perhaps a general section for tools etc. Martin.
