Hi all ,in the past member have fitted oil catch tanks to cure breather problems, could someone post a pic, or supplier, as i have a problem with oil blowing past the filler cap since fitting a weber. Many thanks John

Have a look in my album, if you can get hold of a spacer with the breather pipe attached off of a Essex v6 it should cure your breathing problem. I didn't have enough under bonnet room so teed into the servo pipe. It works!

Filler cap gasket probably needs replacing for a start. Also there is probably a blockage in the breather/flame trap.

I would have thought if you had teed the breather into the servo pipe you would be getting full engine vacuum applied to the crankcase! No wonder it doesn't leak, but does the extra vacuum give any problems with the idle? Probably not too much of a problem if the piston ring gaps are ok, but if the engine is blowing oil due to wear then I would have thought there would be a chance of pulling engine oil through the breather

There is clever little valve thingy which I pinched off the spacer preventing excessive vacuum, perhaps not very clear in the pics.

Kevin, do you mean a PCV valve?

From previous discussions I'm not sure that it is a pcv valve, but what it does is to close when vacuum is high ie at idle or on the overrun preventing the engine from consuming its own oil.

That defines a PCV Kevin..... Positive Crankcase Ventilation - it performs an active function in clearing crankcase fumes....

By doing what I have done there is no need for a catch tank and no oil leaks. I have just replicated the breather setup on the Ford engine.

                          John.

I fitted an e bay catch tank where the overflow bottle was. A large cable tie holds it in place sandwiched between the overflow bottle fixings. One pipe runs to the tank from the cam cover breather. I put a Rover V8 flame trap in the return pipe to the air filter just before the carb. Sorry no part number for flame trap as Russ advised the e bay number

                          .John.
