    Wiper delay switch

    Hi Folks
I've just replaced the parking switch in the wiper motor which has cured the parking fault but the intermittent wipe is still a problem. The wiper jerks across in about 6 steps untill it reaches maximum sweep and then returns to the park position as though the thermal switch is making and breaking too quickly. I would investigate this further if I could find the delay switch. I can't find any ref as to where to look. Before I pull out the dash can someone tell me where to look
    Cheers Tony

I wondered what it was buzzing away when I tested the panel. When I connected the loom there was no wipers fitted so didnt realize until later what it was. I went back and checked and hey presto the wipers boxes were turning because the wiper switch was stuck... LOL so then I fixed that too

The wiper delay unit is at the top right of the panel.

Does the parking switch control where the wipers stop on itermittent? The reason why I ask is that that function works fine, but the wipers won't park on normal speed. As for fast speed, nothing at all.

              Hi Tony

Certainly sounds as if the delay relay is the cause of the fault.

As mentioned it is located on the relay board, you may have to remove the passenger parcel shelf to access it.

You cannot miss it, it has Lucas Delay Unit printed on the case.

I have just bought one from Paddocks, fantastic price.

Hi Pete, yes, the park switch determines where it parks, whether Park, or Intermittent. Martin.

as per my earlier post I am trying to work out why my delay relay clicks constantly, I have checked the output and when it clicks "on" it puts power to the green/yellow wire to the switch. the wipers don`t go because the switch is off
1 second later it clicks "off" and then on again . is it just a faulty relay? an ideas please

                  thanks derek

No doubt of it Derek, the relay's shot. The points are burnt. As it's a dear old fashioned metal one, you may be able to dis-assemble it and clean up, but as they're not expensive I wouldn't bother. Martin.
